Can wine a bedtime snack help lose weight?
Curejoy Expert Dipti Mothay Explains:
Red wine seems to have more benefits than do other types of alcohol. A new study has found that a glass of wine before bed can help you lose weight. According to The Daily Mail, Harvard University studied 20,000 women over 14 years. They drank half a bottle of wine a day. Researchers found the women who drank had a 70 percent reduced risk of obesitycompared to non-drinkers.
How can Wine Help Lose Weight:
Red wine as a bedtime snack could be a good choice. High in antioxidants, red wines can be part of a healthy diet. As long as you limit yourself to one or two glasses per day, red wine can play a role in your weight loss efforts.
Red varieties of wine contain high concentrations of resveratrol, which is found in the skin of grapes. The high resveratrol content in red wines helps to break down fats and reduces the amount of fat in your body, which in turn can help you lose weight. Resveratrol may also reduce cardiovascular and cancer risks and improves blood sugars.
Another study, presented at the European Conference on Obesity in Prague, found that one or two 5-oz. glasses of red wine per day can help raise the amount of healthy HDL cholesterol in your body.
Drinking wine in place of higher-calorie beverages, such as mixed drinks, soda or milkshakes, allows your body to take in fewer calories per day.
Red wine can be a healthy beverage if you drink moderately as it has more polyphenolantioxidants than other alcoholic beverages. Polyphenols are linked to cardiovascular benefits, blood sugar improvement, cancer prevention and weight loss.
