How to handle Penile Injuries
Penis health and hygiene is very important. It is very delicate and vulnerable organ for any man. So any kind of trauma / injury to penis can be distressful, hurtful and can create serious anxiety. Penis injuries can occur because of many reasons. Burns, knocks, scratches, internal injuries or sexual. The reasons are varied and sometimes medical treatment or intervention is necessary.
Common penile injuries are:
1. Chaffing: Masturbation without using any lubricant or lube, wearing pants without underwear, and situations where there is rubbing against the skin resulting in irritation and rawness is called chaffing. The first thing to do is avoid any further friction on the affected area. If that doesn't help, consider using some lubricants, using soft / cotton under wears or if needed consult a doctor.
2. Bruises: This is pretty common especially amongst men and boys who play outdoors. A blunt force against the groin can bruise the scrotum and the penis, followed by a nauseous feeling. Usually the pain subsides after some time but if it doesn't after an hour or so, then immediate medical attention is required.
3. Fracture: This is a common worry amongst women - what if they fracture the man's penis by mistake. The penis is most often hurt during sex. Injury to the penis is rare when it is not erect because it is flexible. During an erection, blood flow in the arteries and hence makes the penis firm.During vigorous sexual activity or forceful thrusting, the penis may slip out of the vagina and strike the women partner instead of going back into the vagina. The penis may then bend sharply and one can feel a sharp pain in the penis and maybe hear a "popping" sound leading to so called fracture. Clinicians may call this injury a penile "fracture," even though there is no bone in the penis. This is often followed by a rapid loss of the erection. Well, it's not really a fracture but a tear in a tube like part of the penis where the blood is collected during erection. Do not try any remedy if you suspect a fracture. Meet a doctor immediately.
4. Cuts: Minor cuts on the penis are pretty common and usually heal soon. Avoiding sex for some days is a good idea.
Few tips on how to take care of your penis against injuries:
1. Seek Professional Advice: If wounded, do not apply any lotions, cream or homemade remedies. Let the expert treat it.
2. Don’t Bandage It tightly: Don't wrap a bandage around the penis if there is an injury or swelling. Wrap loosely with a cling fling instead, if it is available.
3. Use Ice Pack: You can use an icepack to ease the pain of the injury in case of swelling. However, take care to wrap the icepack in a piece of cloth and then put it on the affected area. Avoid direct contact with skin.
